ASEAN Dengue Day campaign launched in Bangkok

BANGKOK, June 15 (TNA) - The ASEAN Community (AC) launches a campaign against the dengue hemorrhagic fever on the ASEAN Dengue Day, which falls on every June 15, focused on educating children to eliminate mosquito larvae at home. Dr. Thawat Sunthrajan, Secretary to Thai Public Health Minister Dr. Piyasakol Sakolsatayadorn, presided over an event to launch the campaign on the occasion of the ASEAN Dengue Day at Assumption College in Bangkok on Wednesday morning, in which representatives of all 10 member states of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) participated. Dr. Thawat said that the campaign is aimed at promoting the exchange of knowledge and information to control the dengue hemorrhagic fever during the ongoing rainy season in the region. According to the senior official, a key strategy at the regional level is to teach young students how to eliminate the larvae of common house mosquitos, the carrier of the dengue virus, as authorities hope the youths will pass the message to their parents to control mosquitos at home. The senior official noted that relevant ASEAN authorities are exchanging innovations related to the control on mosquito larvae and Thailand is promoting application software allowing officials and the general public to effectively eliminate common house mosquitos. On the occasion, the senior official advised that dwellers keep their residences tidy and good ventilation so that no mosquitos gather, and that households get rid of garbage and close water containers to prevent mosquitos breeding there.
