Asean Summit: Police Beef Up Security Nationwide

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- The Royal Malaysia Police (RMP) has beefed up security nationwide, including in the east coast of Sabah, as Malaysia will be hosting the 26th Asean Summit this year. Bukit Aman Internal Security and Public Order Department (KDNKA) director Muhammad Fuad Abu Zarim said the RMP has boosted its General Operations Force (GOF) with 400 personnel from the peninsular to strengthen security control in the east coast of Sabah. “GOF personnel will be stationed there until year-end and they will be rotated in two-month shifts. “Besides the GOF, RMP will also station its personnel and officers in strategic locations to maintain the safety of Asean delegates, including in states where ministerial meetings will be held,” he told Bernama here today. As a curtain raiser, the Asean Foreign Ministers' Retreat will be held in Kota Kinabalu at the end of this month. The 26th Asean Summit is scheduled to be held in April. -- BERNAMA
