ASEAN supports Thailand's bid for UNSC non-permanent seat

BANGKOK, October 1 (TNA) - Fellow member countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) have expressed their support for Thailand’s bid for a non-permanent seat at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) during 2017–2018. The ASEAN fellow members voiced their support for the Thai Kingdom's attempt at an informal meeting of ASEAN Foreign Ministers, held in New York on September 30 on the sidelines of the 70th United Nations General Assembly, in which Thai Foreign Minister Don Pramudwinai participated. A joint statement was issued after the informal ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting, saying that ASEAN supports the Thai Kingdom’s bid to sit in the UNSC during the period. According to the statement, permanent representatives of ASEAN member countries at the United Nations will coordinate with Thailand on the bid. (TNA)
