"ASEAN Week" held at Bangkok's main railway station

BANGKOK, December 16 (TNA) - The government-run Public Relations Department (PRD), in partnership with the State Railway of Thailand (SRT), the ASEAN Association of Thailand and Bangpakokwittayakom School, has organized “ASEAN Week” under the theme of “We are ASEAN:ASEAN Community, ASEAN Citizen” at Hualamphong, Bangkok’s main railway station, this week. Various activities, including cultural and brass band performances, as well as ASEAN quiz competitions and exhibitions, are included in the event, held between December 16–20, 2013. At the opening ceremony on Monday morning, PRD Deputy Director-General Prawin Pattanapong stated that it is a PRD policy on acknowledging the public about the ASEAN Community (AC), set to be formed by 2015, and "ASEAN Week" was, thus, organized. As a co-organizer, Tanongsak Pongprasert, a senior SRT official declared that the SRT hopes to be a part of the success in building the AC through the "ASEAN Week" in the capital. “ASEAN Week” is one of nine events organized by the PRD to promote the establishment of the AC. The other eight events will be later held in the PRD's eight other regions across Thailand. (TNA)
