ASEM invited to invest in Thai infrastructure projects

BANGKOK, September 14 (TNA) - ASEM member countries have been urged to consider on joint investment in developing basic infrastructures in Thailand and in Asia, aimed at supporting trade and investment connectivity. Thai Finance Minister Sommai Pasi, who had just returned from attending the 11th Asia-Europe Finance Ministers’ Meeting, held in Milan, Italy; last Friday, said he had informed finance ministers from 49 countries during the meeting that the Thai government’s policy aimed for wide and free economy which looks for sustainable growth. Sommai said he had invited ASEM members to help finance in logistics system in Asia in which the private sector was invited for co-investment which could help reduce the government’s financial burden. Also, Sommai said he had during the meeting informed the participants on the Thai interim government’s economic policy and urged them to be confident in Thailand as the National Council for Peace and Order, which seized power in Thailand following the May 22 bloodless coup, had been planning to hold a free and fair general election in 2015.
