Asian Afican Summit Issues 'Declation on Palestine'

Jakarta, April 23 (QNA) - The Asian African Summit 2015 concluded here today, under the Chairmanship of Indonesian President Joko Widodo. HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs Ahmed bin Abdullah Al Mahmoud headed the State of Qatar's delegation to the conference. A number of heads of state, heads of delegations, senior officials and personalities in the Member States participated in the conference. The Asian-African summit addressed topics related to promoting South-South cooperation, reinvigorating the New Asian African Strategic Partnership, and showing moral support for the Palestinian people. The two-day summit adopted three important documents: the Bandung Message, the Declaration on Reinvigorating the New Asian African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) and the Declaration on Palestine. The Bandung Message focused on the South-South cooperation, triangular cooperation and strengthening the capacities of developing and least developed countries. The Declaration on Reinvigorating the New Asian African Strategic Partnership (NAASP) re-emphasized the importance of the partnership as a framework for cooperation between African and Asian countries in political, economic and scientific fields. It reviewed the implementation of the previously-adopted initiatives as well as the new proposals to strengthen the initiative, most importantly holding an Afro-Asian summit every 10 years, rotation of the presidency of the Partnership every 4 to activate it, holding ministerial consultations on the initiative every two years on the sidelines of the United Nations General Assembly and holding an annual meetings between the parties to the joint chairmanship of the initiative. The Declaration on Palestine is a proclamation of Afro-Asian solidarity with Palestine that reconfirms the Afro-Asian political support for realizing the independence of the State of Palestine. A celebration will be held on Friday to mark the 60th Anniversary of the Bandung Conference which launched the Non-Allined Movement and the 10th anniversary of the New Asian African Strategic Partnership, signed by member states in 2005. HE the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs will attend the function representing the State of Qatar. (QNA)
