Aspetar Laboratory Receives Accreditation from College of American Pathologists

Doha, September 17 (QNA) - Qatar's Aspetar Hospital has once again demonstrated its commitment to providing world-class medical services to its patients and achieve its vision of being a leader in sports medicine by 2015 with the latest accreditation for its Laboratory from the College of American Pathologists (CAP). The announcement was made during the closing ceremony of the Aspetar 4th Annual United in Quality and Patient Safety Week, which concluded today. Aspetar has become part of an important group of internationally recognised laboratories that have met the highest standards of excellence in quality laboratory practices. This voluntary accreditation programme was created with the primary objective of improving the quality of clinical laboratory services and is the second such accreditation in the State of Qatar. "Receiving CAP accreditation reaffirms our commitment to delivering accurate and reliable testing results to our clients and is a reflective of our focus on being centre of excellence," said Mr Ibrahim Aldarwish, Aspetar Chief Operating Officer. "This signifies the highest standards of laboratory practice, which is a basic factor of our organisation. It's a proud achievement for Aspetar that reflects our hard work, dedication and care for our patients" During the CAP accreditation process, inspectors examined in detail the laboratory's records and quality control of procedures for the preceding two years. CAP inspectors also reviewed laboratory staff qualifications, as well as the laboratory's equipment, facilities, safety programme and record, and overall management. Dr Sitina Elshafi, Aspetar Laboratory Director, added; "the CAP accreditation recognises Aspetar laboratory's commitment in implementing a high quality standard of clinical laboratory services, we have reached one of our goals of treating our patients at the top standard levels of care as outlined by the CAP clinical guidelines and recommendations".
