Attempts to salvage capsized cargo ship

BANGKOK, May 24 (TNA) - Concerned officials are now unloading coal from a cargo ship which capsized at the estuary of the Chao Phraya River in Bangkok’s neighbouring province of Samut Prakan in an attempt to salvage the ship. Director of Harbour Office Region 6, Samut Prakan, Surat Sirisaiyat said the accident occurred Friday night when the ‘Pattara 33’ carrying approximately 1,700 tonnes of coal capsized behind Wat Asokaram in Samut Prakan’s Muang district due to high waves. Fortunately, no casualties were reported following the accident. He said it is expected that it would take several days before the ship could be salvaged and towed to the shore. The capsized ship did not obstruct transportation. (TNA)
