Australia "Increasingly Confident" Debris Is From MH370

KUALA LUMPUR, July 31 (Bernama) -- A top Autralian official said the authorities searching for Flight MH370 were "increasingly confident" that a piece of wreckage found on an Indian Ocean island was from the missing jet, according to AFP. The agency reported that the two-metre (six-foot) long piece of wreckage, would be sent to France for analysis, with hopes high that it would be the first tangible proof that the plane went down in the Indian Ocean. It said the investigators were hoping they would be able to move closer to solving the mystery surrounding the Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 aircraft, which vanished without a trace 16 months ago with 239 people on board. "We are increasingly confident that this debris is from MH370. "The shape of the object looks very much like a very specific part associated only with a 777 aircraft," Martin Dolan, chief commissioner of the Australian Transport Safety Bureau which is leading the MH370 search, told AFP. Dolan, however, echoed comments Thursday by Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak, that the object was "very likely" from a Boeing 777 but cautioned that it remained to be confirmed, in a case notorious for disappointing false leads, reported the news agency. The plane went missing on March 8, 2014 while en route to Beijing from Kuala Lumpur. --BERNAMA
