Australia Supports Wastewater Treatment Plant Project In Banjarmasin

Banjarmasin, S. Kalimantan, Dec 18 (Antara) - Australia has funded a wastewater treatment plant project with a capacity to treat two thousand of sewerage for the low income community in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan. "This assistance is necessary to help the low income community achieve its MDG goals," Acting Director of Banjarmasin Wastewater Enterprise (PD PAL) stated in Banjarmasin on Thursday. Although the customers are not charged for the initial six months, yet their numbers are still below six thousand as compared to the 750 thousand population of Banjarmasin, he pointed out. Chairman of the Supervisory Board of PD PAL Zulfadli Gazali understands the reluctance shown by the people to become PD PAL customers. "This is because the benefits of sanitation management are not directly recognized by the people, and this is the reason why a lot of people still do not acknowledge the importance of wastewater management" he emphasized. Zulfadli remarked that the grant should achieve its set target, so that it can contribute by improving the housing environment in the five districts of Banjarmasin.
