AUSTRALIAN CONVICTS FACING EXECUTION SEEKING REVIEW OF VERDICT

Denpasar, Jan 22 (Antara) - An Australian Myuran Sukumaran, facing death execution on drug charge is seeking review (PK) of his death verdict through his lawyer Todung Mulya Lubis. Chairman of the Denpasar District Court Sugeng Riyono said Todung has come to Denpasar for consultation as Myuran's lawyer on attempt to save the convict from the death sentence. Appeal for clemency by Myuran, who was sentenced to death in the "Bali Nine" drug case, has been turned down by President Joko Widodo. "They came here to discuss the procedure of PK," Sugeng Riyono said here on Thursday. The Bali district court sentenced Myuran and another Australian Andrew Chan to death for attempt to smuggle 8.2 kg of heroin from Australia. There were nine Australians arrested in the smuggling attempt in April 2005, also including Si Yi Chen, Michael Czugaj, Renae Lawrence, Tach Duc Thanh Nguyen, Matthew Norman, Scott Rush, dan Martin Stephens, for whom the court meted out jail terms up to life imprisonment. The attorney general office said execution of Myuran is pending the president's decision on clemency appeal by Andrew. If Andrew's appeal is also rejected the two would be executed together at the same time, Attorney General HM Prasetyo said. Australia has strongly protested the execution of death penalty for six drug convicts on Sunday Jan. 28. Namaona Denis (48) from Malawi, Marco Archer Cardoso Mareira (53) from Brazil, Daniel Enemua (38) from Nigeria, Ang Kim Soei 62) withy citi8zemship not clear, Tran Thi Bich Hanh (37) from Vietnam and Rani Andriani or Melisa Aprilia, an Indonesian were executed by firing by a death.
