Authorities to discuss new-round peace talks in Thai deep South

BANGKOK, September 8 (TNA) - Thai Prime Minister General Prayuth Chan-ocha has assigned Secretary-General of the National Security Council (NSC) Thawil Pliensri to visit Malaysia to discuss with his Malaysian counterpart on a new round of peace talks between Thai authorities and representatives of insurgent groups in the violence-plagued Thai far South, led by the Barisan Revolusi Nasional (BRN). Thawil told TNA of the update on Monday, saying that he will, thus, meet with his Malaysian counterpart in Malaysia on September 9 to discuss the issue as assigned. Thawil revealed that he will also pass the Thai prime minister's message to his Malaysian counterpart Najib Razak that Thailand would like Malaysia to remain as the facilitator of the ongoing peace process in the Thai deep South. According to the NSC chief, after the schedule is set for the new round of peace talks, the Thai prime minister will appoint his government's representatives to attend the next round of peace negotiations with the BRN-led insurgent groups.
