Authorities seize over 6m meth pills

CHIANG RAI, THAILAND, February 24 (TNA) - Combined security forces working under an anti-narcotic cooperation programme of member countries of the Greater Mekong Sub-region (GMS) have nabbed two Myanmar suspects and seized 6.3 million pills of methamphetamine in Myanmar's Tachileik Province, opposite Mae Sai District of Chiang Rai Province in the Upper Thai North. The combined security forces, comprising more than 40 anti-narcotic and immigration officers, police and soldiers, on Wednesday stopped a 6-wheel truck carrying rocks and sand for an inspection at a border checkpoint in Tachileik and found the 6.3 million methamphetamine pills packed in 35 bags and hidden under the rocks and sand. The combined forces then arrested the two Myanmar suspects, one of them was the driver, for further questioning in order to track down all those involving in the drug trafficking case. GMS members include Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam, and China's southern Yunnan Province. (TNA)
