Authorities urged to find solution to oil spills along eastern Thai beach

RAYONG, THAILAND, June 29 (TNA) - A community leader has called for authorities concerned to seriously find solution to a repeated problem of oil spills along an eastern Thai beach. Taweep Saengkrajang, Chairman of the Ta Pong Sub-district Administrative Organisation (SAO) in Rayong Province in the Thai East, made the call on Monday, after a new 3-kilometre oil spill was found along the province's renowned Mae Ram Pueng Beach. Taweep told reporters that there have been oil spills along the Mae Ram Pueng Beach for three times so far this year, seriously affecting local tourism-related businesses and the environment. Meanwhile, a team of officials from many concerned agencies inspected and collected samples at the affected area. Initially, the team could not identify whether the new oil slick was a fresh or an old one pending an official result from laboratory tests, expected soon. (TNA)
