BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) - Transport Co., Ltd., under the Thai Ministry of Transport, has ensured that there will be enough inter-provincial passenger buses to serve travellers during the upcoming Songkran or the traditional Thai New Year Festival. Nopparat Karunya-vanich, Vice President and Acting President of Transport Co., Ltd., made the assurance on Thursday, after a meeting in Bangkok on preparing enough buses for Songkran holidaymakers and for those planning to return home to visit their families and friends. Nopparat said people are expected to leave Bangkok for upcountry during April 8–12 and to return to the capital during April 16-18, after their Songkran reunion with families and friends. The Transport Co., Ltd. chief announced that his state-run company will increase about 2,000 inter-provincial buses daily to 9,000 to accommodate more than 200,000 passengers daily during the period. The Transport Co., Ltd. chief also asked for police reinforcements to help alleviate expected heavy traffic at bus stations and for enough taxis and security officers to serve passengers at bus stations during Songkran.
