Authority:No Thai tourist sites will be affected by drought

BANGKOK, March 31 (TNA) - The Provincial Waterworks Authority (PWA) says that tourist destinations in Thailand will not be affected by the ongoing drought. PWA Board Chair Jirachai Moontongroy said on Thursday that the tourism industry is a major income earner for Thailand; so, although local popular tourist destinations have to, normally, cater a large number of Thai and foreign tourists during summer, water in the major tourist sites, namely Koh Samet and Koh Chang in the Thai East and Koh Lanta and Koh Samui in the Thai South, will not encounter any water shortage. Jirachai told journalists that PWA had discussed with several government agencies to ensure that there would be sufficient water for domestic consumption. Besides, a state budget amounting about 54.3 million baht has been set aside in the 2017 fiscal year to lay a 4-kilometre long pipeline from the Pae water distribution centre to Koh Samet. Once the project is complete, Jirachai revealed, people on Koh Samet and tourists will have sufficient tap water at a reasonable price. Meanwhile, PWA Deputy Governor Chumpol Chokepong-udomchai assured that there would be enough water for consumption from now until May, urging people to save water. (TNA)
