AYUTTHAYA, Oct 3 (TNA) -- Thailand's ancient province of Ayutthaya has planned to organise a vegetarian festival that would include a vegetarian feast for elephants, becoming the first city in the world to provide such meal to elephants. Head of the Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya Provincial Administrative Organisation (PAO), Ms Somsong Phancharoenworakul said the PAO together with Vegetarian Club of Thailand would be co-organising a vegetarian festival to continue the tradition of eating only fruits and vegetables in the month of September every year to make merits and for good luck. She said the festival is usually celebrated around the world for people of Chinese descents and for those who respected the Goddess of Mercy, as they believed it would bring luck.. For this year, Ayutthaya province is set to organise free vegetarian meals between October 12-22, at Wat Wong Kong temple, Hua Ror subdistrict of Phra Nakhon Si Ayutthaya district. To add colours to the event, the PAO has planned to start off the first day of the festival with a vegetarian banquet for nine sacred elephants from Ayutthaya Elephant Palace & Royal Kraal, where nine table full of fruits and vegetables would be prepared for each of the elephant.
