Azerbaijan accuses EP head of misinforming international community

Baku, Azerbaijan, Nov. 27 Trend: The European Parliament (EP) President Martin Schulz is looking for a reason to express a negative position towards Azerbaijan, and never misses the opportunity, the deputy head of the Azerbaijani presidential administration, chief of the administration’s foreign relations department, Novruz Mammadov said Nov. 27 in an interview with the Newtimes website. Mammadov was commenting on Schulz’s remarks about Azerbaijani NGO head Leyla Yunusova. Earlier, President of the European Parliament Martin Schulz made certain remarks on Azerbaijan at the plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg. In his speech at the plenary session of the European Parliament on Nov.26, Schulz demanded the Azerbaijani government to release Yunusova. “Regarding Leyla Yunusova, I can only say one thing: everyone knows who she is and what she has been doing for 25 years. I do not want to talk about it,” he said. “As for the position of Mr. Schulz on the matter, I have to say that such a position of imperative and demanding nature, distorting reality, makes it necessary to express the attitude to it,” Mammadov said. “Firstly, because as if Mr. Schulz is looking for a reason to express a negative attitude towards Azerbaijan, and he never misses the opportunity. We have repeatedly witnessed it," he said. “Secondly, Mr. Schulz, linking his statement with the human rights, and tries to present himself as a defender of these rights. He is allegedly engaged in the protection of innocent people.” “Thirdly, he deliberately misinforms international community, misleading it, creating erroneous position,” Mammadov said. Mammadov said the European Parliament’s head has been on the political arena for a long time, and apparently sees his mission to strengthen the EU as completed. He said Schulz thinks he has succeeded to settle all the issues related to the EU and that everything goes smoothly in this sphere, therefore, he is very pleased of himself. Mammadov said that Shultz arranges biased discussions, makes appeals within and outside the European Parliament, and all this happens when the heads, prime ministers of European and other countries visit Azerbaijan and upon returning talk about Azerbaijan’s success achieved in recent years, the development, stability and security in the country as Azerbaijani miracle. “Martin Schulz is not interested in these issues. He even refused to say a word about it,” Mammadov said. “For some reason, Mr. Schulz doesn’t value Azerbaijan’s development in the years of independence in a very short period, its prosperity, ensuring stability and security in a complex geopolitical region and its high image on the international arena which allows to host various political, cultural and sports events.” “If Mr. Schulz, who presents himself as a herald of justice, human rights defender at least once made an appeal and expressed position supporting a million innocent old men, women, young people, children, whose fundamental rights were absolutely violated and have become refugees and IDPs in Azerbaijan, there would be trust in his other appeals as well,” the top official said. Mammadov added that the European parliament president would be trusted if he at least once made a statement about the 25 years of occupation of Azerbaijan’s internationally recognized territories by Armenia. "But he does not do this,” Mammadov said. “Sometimes these people’s mission is unclear. I wonder the purposes of the prejudicial statements, misleading the international community instead of strengthening the EU and its credibility? Unfortunately, there are a lot of such cases." Mammadov said that it is obvious that Schulz is an ambitious politician. "But if he was as brave as ambitious, he would say at least a few words about the Ferguson events,” he said. “However, if he is not brave enough, let him express a position on the current processes and events in most European countries, his country, Brussels. Significant events that must be commented on and on which the statements must be made, occur every day. So, it would be better if he was into in his own business, then people would trust him and his ambitions would have been implemented." “Sometimes we really see the results of the biased appeals on certain events and processes that are made irresponsibly without comprehensive examination and investigation,” he said. “But unfortunately, such processes are underway.” "Therefore, we have to look for the answer to one question,” he said. “What are the causes of the current problematic and crisis situation in the EU and who is responsible for it? It would be nice if Mr. Schultz thought about the answer to this question." Follow us on Twitter @TRENDNewsAgency
