Azerbaijan: New twinning project with France

Baku, June 22 (AzerTAc). State Committee on Women, Family and Children in partnership with the Directorate General of the Social Solidarity of France launched twinning project on the theme of the "Strengthening the capacity of the State Committee on Women, Family and Children to promote and protect the rights of families, women and children in sensitive groups." The meeting of the managers of the project was held June 21 in Baku. Providing information about the main directions of state policy of Azerbaijan to address problems of families, women and children, Chairwoman of the Committee Hijran Huseynova emphasized that Azerbaijan acceded to several international conventions in this area, and got a positive experience. Huseynova spoke about the work carried out within the Twinning project and underlined the importance of studying the international experience in this field. Project Manager Marie Curleu, for her part, dwelled on the ongoing issues of gender equality. Speaking about the significance of the project, she noted the importance of joint cooperation in this field with the appropriate agencies. The speakers said that eight thematic workshops have been organized as part of the project in Baku and regions, in addition the web-site of the Committee has been updated. The project was launched in 2011 and will run until 2013. In parallel with the Twinning project in accordance with bilateral cooperation between Azerbaijan and France a series of training modules will be organized in September and October, 2012. Also based on TAIEX program, there will be organized a seminar on children facing the domestic violence.
