Azerbaijan, Russia discuss prospects for cooperation

Baku, February 11, AzerTAc Azerbaijani Minister of Economy and Industry Shahin Mustafayev has met a delegation led by Deputy Head of the RF Government Arkady Dvorkovich to discuss prospects for bilateral cooperation. Shahin Mustafayev hailed Azerbaijani-Russian relations, based on the principles of mutual respect and beneficial cooperation, as highly. The Minister emphasized the importance of the mutual visits of heads of state in expanding relations between the two countries. Nearly 170 documents, more than 45 of them envisaging economic cooperation, have been inked between Azerbaijan and Russia, he said. The Intergovernmental Commission on Economic cooperation between Azerbaijan and the Russian Federation contributes to the development of economic relations between the two countries. Azerbaijan and Russia host traditional regional forums which ensure the development of bilateral cooperation, the Economy Minister added. Mr. Mustafayev hailed Russia as one of the major trade partners of Azerbaijan. At present, nearly 600 companies with Russian capital operate in Azerbaijan, he stressed. The Azerbaijani companies as well successfully operate in Russia. Russia has invested $1.8 billion to Azerbaijan’s economy, while Azerbaijan in 2004-2013 years more than $1 billion invested to Russian economy. Speaking on further expansion of relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, the Minister noted the greater potential for cooperation in the fields of agriculture, engineering, pharmaceutical and other areas. Mr. Mustafayev highlighted country’s sustainable economic development and projects carried out in various sectors of economy as well. Touching upon the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict, the Minister said that the conflict is the most serious threat to the development of regional cooperation. Arkady Dvorkovich in his turn praised the Azerbaijani-Russian relations in various fields including the success in economic sphere, saying that the two countries have greater potential for cooperation. Mr. Dvorkovich shared his views on the expansion of trade and investment cooperation, expressing the significance of efficient use of existing resources in development of bilateral relations. Following the meeting, in a briefing Deputy Head of the Government of the Russian Federation Arkady Dvorkovich highlighted the high level of relations between the two countries and development of prospects.
