Azerbaijan State University of Economics becomes 4th among Universities of Region of Economic Profile

Baku, June 16, AZERTAC Ranking of QS rating agency for June 14, 2016 on developing European and Central Asian region has been announced. Ranking was conducted among 500 universities of 30 countries. Azerbaijan State University of Economics (UNEC) was ranked among the 200 universities, being the 4th university of economic profile of the developing European and Central Asian Universities. Ranking was conducted on 9 indicators: academic reputation, number of citations on articles, recruiters’ reputation, teacher student ration, the number of teachers with academic degrees, the number of overseas teaching staff, the ratio of the number of international students to the number of local students, web impact and the ratio of the number of teachers to the number of articles. Indicators on academic reputation enable the higher education institutions to analyze the current status of their academic activities. In this case, the answers are based on opinion makers around the world. More than 77000 reviews were collected within the assessment. UNEC’s evaluation on the biggest significant indicator of academic reputation is 39.4 with 30%. Web impact, i.e., efficiency of UNEC’s Internet resources on effective use of new technologies indicator was evaluated 52.6 points. Webometrics’ assessment is mainly based here in which UNEC was ranked the first on the country for 2015- 2016 academic year. There is a significant improvement in the recruiters’ reputation in compare to previous years. In general, more than 44200 reviews were gathered for 2016 on this indicator. UNEC’s final score was 22.2 in accordance with the voting of various business groups. The evaluation assists in analyzing the recruitment of university alumni to different enterprises. UNEC’s score on the number of teachers and students was 22.1. The indicator is based here to the ratio of the number of students to the number of teaching staff. The average number indicator of the articles to the number of teaching staff was 1.1, so that is the second- best performance among the higher education institutions of Azerbaijan. The number of indicated articles on SCOPUS base is included here. One of the reasons affecting UNEC’s progress on this indicator is the differential salary system applied for the first time at UNEC to ensure teaching staff’s motivation and strengthen rivalry among them. UNEC achieved progress on the number of the teachers with academic degree indicator. The ratio of the number of teachers with PhD and Dr of Sciences degrees to the number of teaching staff is 55.9%, which brought to UNEC 10.4 points. The indicator on the ratio of the number of foreign teachers to the local teachers is 10.8 points; and the indicator on the ratio of the number of international students to local is 4.9 points.
