Azerbaijani gas can be supplied to Central Europe in future

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 18 By Emil Ismayilov - Trend: Fuel transportation to Bulgaria, Romania, Hungary and Austria is not excluded as part of the project for Azerbaijani gas supplies to the European markets in the long term, British Petroleum reported on Tuesday. The main Trans Adriatic Pipeline that will ensure Azerbaijani gas supplies to Europe from the Turkish border can add another route. In late June, the consortium for development of the Shah Deniz chose the Trans Adriatic Pipeline (TAP) as a transportation route for its gas to European markets. The initial capacity of the TAP pipeline will stand at 10 billion cubic meters per year, with the possibility of expanding it to 20 billion cubic meters per year. Trans-Anatolian gas pipeline (TANAP) will be constructed in order to transport gas through Turkey. This will ensure gas deliveries to the border with Europe. Within the second phase of development it is planned to produce some 16 billion cubic meters of gas, six billion of which will be transported to Turkey and 10 billion to Europe. Reserves of the Shah Deniz field are estimated at 1.2 trillion cubic meters of gas. The cost of the second phase of development of Shah Deniz gas and condensate field is estimated at $25 billion. TAP connection to the Ionian-Adriatic Pipeline (IAP) will allow gas transported via TAP to be directly supplied to many countries in South-Eastern Europe. IAP project envisages laying of the pipeline in the Western Balkans. TAP has already signed memorandums of understanding and cooperation with developers of the IAP project, including Plinacro (Croatia), BH-Gas (Bosnia and Herzegovina), Geoplin Plinovodi (Slovenia), as well as with the governments of Montenegro and Albania. A TAP-IAP joint working group has been established. It regularly holds meetings to align the schedules of both pipeline projects and technical issues of interconnection.
