Azerbaijani, Iranian border guards to jointly fight against smuggling

Tehran, February 25, AzerTAc Chief of Azerbaijan's State Border Service, Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev met with his Iranian counterpart, Major-General Qassem Rezaei. A number of documents were signed in Tehran at the eighth meeting between the Iranian border guards and the Azerbaijani State Border Service. As stated, the border guards of Azerbaijan and Iran will jointly fight against smuggling and illegal border crossing. The documents were signed by the Chief of Azerbaijan's State Border Service, Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev and the commander of Iranian border guards, Major-General Qassem Rezaei. Mr. Qassem Rezaei said the meeting with his Azerbaijani counterpart discussed the prevention of smuggling, illegal border crossing and other border-related issues. Rezaei said the parties agreed to hold such meetings in the cities located near the border areas. He also noted that the Iranian-Azerbaijani border is the most secure. Colonel-General Elchin Guliyev also met with the commander of the police forces of Iran, Ismail Ahmadi Mugaddam and discussed a number of issues. Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Iran Javanshir Akhundov was present at the meetings.
