Azerbaijani servicemen neutralize Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage groups

Baku, Azerbaijan, Dec. 9 Trend: The Azerbaijani armed forces destroyed the Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage groups in the south of the Azerbaijani and Armenian frontline last night, the Azerbaijani defense ministry said. The Armenian reconnaissance and sabotage groups intended to cross the line of contact, a statement says. The enemy’s movement and approaching was revealed in time thanks to the vigilance of the Azerbaijani servicemen. As a result of the pro-active measures and fierce firefight, the Armenian saboteurs retreated by suffering losses, a statement says. The Azerbaijani Armed Forces did not suffer any losses. The situation is controlled on the frontline, a statement says. The conflict between the two South Caucasus countries began in 1988 when Armenia made territorial claims against Azerbaijan. As a result of the ensuing war, in 1992 Armenian armed forces occupied 20 percent of Azerbaijan, including the Nagorno-Karabakh region and seven surrounding districts. The two countries signed a ceasefire agreement in 1994. The co-chairs of the OSCE Minsk Group, Russia, France and the US are currently holding peace negotiations. Armenia has not yet implemented four UN Security Council resolutions on the liberation of the Nagorno-Karabakh and the surrounding regions. Follow us on Twitter @TRENDNewsAgency
