Azerbaijan`s Silk Way Airlines signs $1bn deal to purchase 10 Boeing-737 MAX aircrafts

Baku, April 14, AZERTAC Azerbaijan`s Silk Way Airlines and Boeing, the world's largest aerospace company, have signed an agreement on the purchase of 10 Boeing-737 MAX aircrafts. The total cost of the deal is one billion US dollars. The agreement was signed by Zaur Akhundov, president of Silk Way Holding, and Marty Bentrott, Boeing Vice President for Sales, Middle East, Russia & Central Asia. The deal was signed in the presence of AZAL president Jahangir Asgarov and US ambassador to Azerbaijan Robert Cekuta. Based on preliminary discussions with the Export-Import Bank of the United States (EXIM Bank), the purchase of aircrafts will be financed without state guarantees for the first time in the history of Azerbaijan’s civil aviation. The agreement on the delivery of Boeing-737 MAX aircrafts to Azerbaijan was reached during the Farnborough International Airshow 2016 in the UK. The first two aircrafts will be delivered to Azerbaijan by the end of 2018, and the rest until the end of 2020.
