Background recording for legal migrant workers in Thailand set to end in mid-2018

BANGKOK, April 30 (TNA) - The Thai government, through the Ministry of Labour, is opening its one stop service centers (OSSCs) in Bangkok and provincial areas nationwide to serve legal migrant workers to have their background recorded and their work permits officially issued. Anurak Tossarat, Director-General of the ministry's Department of Employment, said on April 29 the work, a further step following the official registration of migrant workers from neighboring Cambodia, Lao PDR and Myanmar that ended on March 31, is believed to be completed by June 30, 2018 as earlier set. Anurak told journalists that about 38,000 legal migrant workers, out of 479,299 totally have had their background recorded or properly changed and work permits issued during the first week-work at his ministry's OSSCs nationwide, 24,455 of whom are Myanmar nationals, following by 11,964 Cambodian and 1,581 Lao nationals. Anurak suggested that the remaining migrant workers who have officially registered with his department by themselves or by their employers check the dates on their queues for the background recording, based on the Thai Cabinet's resolution on March 27, 2018, through the [http://www.doe.go.th] and [http://express.doe.go.th/] websites or Tel. No. 662-248-7290, before reporting to the OSSCs in their respective areas for their background recorded and their work permits issued. The senior official also advised that the legally-registered migrant workers have their nationality officially-verified and their health checked-up before going to the OSSCs for the final work.
