Baggage checks at Thai airports in line with ICAO standards

BANGKOK, August 11 (TNA) - Airports of Thailand Public Company Limited (AOT) has announced that baggage checks at all Thai airports are compliant with aviation rules and standards set by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). AOT President Nitinai Sirismatthakarn made the announcement on Friday, warning that passengers who do not follow the ICAO rules must face legal action, including a one-year jail term or a 40,000-baht fine each, or both the fine and the jail term. The AOT president stressed that all Thai airports need to strictly comply with the ICAO rules and standards. The AOT president revealed that a team of ICAO experts recently visited Thailand to inspect the rules and standards, under the ICAO's Universal Security Audit Programme (USAP), handled by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT) and assigned all Thai airports to strictly follow the UN agency's aviation rules and standards. "All Thai airports must, thus, follow the ICAO rules and standards, as well as the country's own aviation law B.E. 2497. Any passenger whose baggage is found containing prohibited materials, like spray, gel or other liquids, must follow the aviation law and regulations", said the AOT president. (TNA)
