Bahrain’s sustainable development strides hailed

Manama, May 27 (BNA): The National Communication Centre (NCC) is holding two key workshops in cooperation with the Thomson Reuters. The workshops which last four days, are being attended by twenty Government entities and twenty media figures from Bahrain and the region.  The workshops are themed respectively “Forming Government Speakers on Sustainable Development” and “Training Media Personnel on Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)”.  The workshops are being held on the sidelines of efforts to draft the 1st national voluntary report on sustainable development goals, which will be presented in July at a high-level political forum at the UN headquarters in New York.  Professionals experts and instructors from Thomson Reuters will hone the skills of a number of Government speakers and other media cadres as part of a plan to promote national competences on highlighting Bahrain’s achievements, elaborate a harmonious and cohesive government discourse, send influential media messages and deal with inaccurate views. Addressing the opening ceremony, NCC Chief Executive Officer Dr. Mohammed Behzad stressed Bahrain’s strides to achieve sustainable development goals, ever since His Majesty King Hamad bin Hamad bi Isa Al-Khalifa launched the reform project, before the United Nations announced the SDGs agenda in 2015.  He cited in particular the National Action Charter, the Constitution of Bahrain and the 2030 Economic Vision and other landmark achievements which span all fields in the Kingdom.  He paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa for his sustained directives, commending the constant follow-up of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Premier. He highlighted the Bahrain 2030 Economic Vision, which is based on three key pillars: sustainability, competitiveness and justice – three principles featuring the 2030 SDGs agenda.  He underlined the complementary role of the Government and the media in addressing national development issues, highlighting Bahrain’s efforts to achieve the SDGs milestone. He pointed out the establishment of the National Information Committee to promote Bahrain’s SDGs strides. Chaired by Cabinet Affairs Minister, the panel includes officials representing ministries and other competent Government departments.
