Manama, Nov. 30 (BNA): Bahrain is set to host the 3rd Arab forum on prospects of generating electricity and desalinating sea water with nuclear energy. The event will kick off on Tuesday (December 1) and continue till Thursday (December 3) at the Diplomat Hotel. It is organised by the Supreme Council for Environment (SCE) and the Electricity and Water Authority (EWA) in cooperation with the Arab Atomic Energy Agency (AAEA), the General Secretariat of the Arab League's Arab Ministerial Council for Electricity and the Arab Union of Electricity and with the support of the Gulf Petrochemical Industries Company (GPIC). Marking the occasion, SCE Chief Executive Dr. Mohammed Mubarak bin Daina said ever since Bahrain became member of the AAEA in 2009, SCE has shown keenness as an official monitoring authority to issue resolutions concerning radioactive substances in cooperation with AAEA so as to curb their harmful effects on people's health and the environment. The forum is considered as an opportunity to debate previously-raised issues pertaining to priorities and fears related to nuclear power programmes in Arab countries. The event will bring together experts from and officials from AAEA member states, the International Atomic Energy Agency and related institutions in the USA, Russia and China.
