Bahrain ranked in Tier2 Watch List, US Human Trafficking Report

Manama, July 27 (BNA): The Kingdom of Bahrain was among the Tier2 category in the annual US Department of State annual report on Combating the Trafficking in Persons issued today (Monday, 27 July, 2015), affirming the progress of the Kingdom of Bahrain in its efforts to combat this international phenomenon, after Bahrain was in last year’s US Department of State report listed as ‘Tier2 watch list’. In this regard, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary, Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, said that the US Department of State report placed Bahrain among the Tier2 category, which is a classification of countries whose government’s work is committed to international standards in this regard. He said that it clearly reflects the great efforts exerted by the Kingdom of Bahrain to combat the trafficking in persons phenomenon as well as its efforts to promote and protect human rights, which is a fundaments pillar in the pioneering reform project of His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, in line with the belief that people are the main goal in the development process. The Undersecretary added that the Kingdom of Bahrain government, headed by of His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al Khalifa, carried out this principal through various legal tools that protect people and safeguard their rights as well as the role of His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander, First Deputy Premier and Economic Development Board Chairman in establishing the plans and programmes in this regard, this is in addition to the active role of Her Royal Highness Princess Sabeeka bint Ibrahim Al Khalifa, wife of His Majesty the King and Chairwoman of the Supreme Council for Women, which is clearly reflected in her continued support to combat this dangerous phenomenon that requires all establishments in the community to combat it. The Undersecretary stressed that continuing to achieve such progress at this important level indicates the awareness, comprehensive plans and initiatives implemented by the Kingdom of Bahrain to combat the trafficking in persons, reflecting the extent of success in spreading awareness among citizens and residents on the concepts of combating the trafficking in persons as well as their rights in this regard, in addition to affirming the positive and constructive cooperation between the government and civic societies as well as all the relevant international organizations in this regard. In conclusion, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Undersecretary, Ambassador Abdulla Abdullatif Abdulla, affirmed that work will continue to further develop efforts in combating the trafficking in persons for the continuation of the Kingdom’s achievements in line with its principle, mainly transparency, realism and comprehensiveness to stop the trafficking of persons and implement international standards to combat the trafficking in persons phenomenon wherever it is, as well as continue local, regional and international cooperation with the relevant parties in this regard.
