'Bahrain role model for tolerance'

Manama, Feb. 10 (BNA): Shura Council's Women and Children Affairs Committee Chairperson Hala Ramzi Fayez has affirmed that the Kingdom of Bahrain represents a role model of religious tolerance thanks to the vision adopted by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa that calls for openness among citizens who have rights and responsibilities, which is ensured by the Bahraini constitution and the National Action Charter. She pointed out that the Kingdom enjoys co-existence among various components of the society, adding that everyone is equal before the law, which criminalises anyone who disrupts national unity or insults another person's belief or religion. This came as she received the Second Secretary in charge of Political Affairs at the Japanese Embassy Masayuki Takahashi. They reviewed the Kingdom of Bahrain's achievements in all fields, especially in terms of its ability of achieving social justice among all citizens within the state of institution and law and ensuring freedom of religious practice. Fayez affirmed that the awareness and culture of the Bahraini people is the cornerstone of Bahrain's stability as well the leadership's keen interest in the role played by the minorities in building the community and the nation, highlighting the representation of all social segments within the legislative institution. She pointed out that the Bahraini society rejects extremism, stressing that the Bahraini citizens are loving, tolerant and don't discriminate on basis of colour, gender or ethnicity.
