Bahrain Scientific Centre unveils programmes

Manama, Aug.7 (BNA): The newly-established Bahrain Scientific Centre for Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) has called for registration on the child and youth-centered programmes. Children aged 9 to 14 will register in two main programmes themed "The World We Want" and "The World of Science" – which promote the implementation of sustainable development goals. A string of educational workshops have been concocted to nurture creative thinking among children and encourage them to deepen their scientific knowledge. Two other programmes themed "Youth Leaders" and "Change Goals", target the category aged 15 to 29. The schemes aim at honing the skills of participants so as they could contribute to innovation and change. Youth and Sports Minister Hesham bin Mohammed Al-Jowder announced that the programmes would start on August 12 and run until the end of this month. The centre which was inaugurated officially las Sunday (August 5) is the first hub of its kind in the world. The milestone aims at promoting the implementation of 17 sustainable development goals – a collection of 17 global goals set by the United Nations in 2015 and endorsed by the world leaders. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has restructured the centre to be Commensurate with its basic objectives and encourage new generations to explore modern sciences and cutting edge technologies, including artificial technologies. The centre which covers 1000 square metres includes an environment-friendly three-storey building which was redesigned to serve the sustainable development goals. The facility has also been fitted with solar panels and power fans and insulated completely polystyrene to conserve energy.
