Bahrain's progress in protecting child rights stressed

Manama, July 30 (BNA): The Labour and Social Development Ministry stressed that the ministry and the National Child Committee are the only parties that have all data and statistics related to the rights of the child. It added that both parties are currently following up on the implementation of the national strategy for children and preparing Bahrain's fourth and fifth periodic national report on the kingdom's progress in protecting children and carrying out the international Convention on the Rights of the Child which will be discussed at the UN headquarters in Geneva in 2017. Bahrain signed the convention in 1991 and submitted its second and third reports to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child (CRC) in 2012. It explained that what has been published in some local newspapers recently on Bahrain’s index regress in the field of child rights was based on inaccurate information released by unknown organisation. It stressed that the kingdom’s achievements in protecting children are numerous and advanced and will be documented clearly based on data and statistics in Bahrain’s report which will be submitted to the CRC.
