Bangkok hosts 2nd Meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals

BANGKOK, November 5 (TNA) - Bangkok hosts the Second Meeting of Governors/Mayors of ASEAN Capitals from November 4-6, during which 10 leaders from ASEAN capital cities convene to strengthen ties and discuss city management and tourism promotion. When inaugurating the meeting in the Thai capital on Wednesday, Bangkok Governor MR. Sukhumbhand Paribatra said the objectives of the meeting are to strengthen the bonds between capital cities within the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), along with setting directions for city development plans through experience and idea exchanges in order to integrate them as one for the benefit of all ASEAN capitals. As the chairman this year, Bangkok has put on the table various agendas up for discussions, including public safety, migration, natural disaster management, logistics, tourism, education, public health and environment protection, as well as cultural and traditional exchange under the theme of "One Vision, One Identity, One Community". At the end of the three-day regional gathering, in which ASEAN Deputy Secretary General Dr. Akp Mochtan also participates, the 10 leaders of ASEAN capital cities will sign a Bangkok Declaration to cooperate on projects that should bring sustainable benefits to ASEAN people.
