Bangkok hosts G77 meeting first time

BANGKOK, February 29 (TNA) - Bangkok hosts this year's Group of 77 (G77) developing countries meeting for the first time, as Thailand chairs the G77 in 2016. Delivering a speech to open the G77 meeting, themed "Bangkok Roundtable on Sufficiency Economy:An Approach to Implementing the Sustainable Development Goals", on Monday morning, Thai Prime Minister General Prayut Chan-ocha publicised to G77 members on the Sufficiency Economic Principle, initiated by His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej and having been practiced in Thailand for over 40 years. The prime minister told the participants from 134 countries and international organisations that the Sufficiency Economy Principle could help achieve sustainable development goals of the United Nations. The Thai premier proposed that G77 member countries apply the Sufficiency Economy Principle to their national development over the next 15 year. The participants in Monday's G77 meeting include high-ranking officials from embassies and experts on sustainable development from the member countries and international organisations. (TNA)
