Bangkok launches bike rental scheme to ease traffic

BANGKOK, October 28 (TNA) - In a fresh move to ease ailing traffic conditions, Bangkok City launches its own bike rental scheme, which will expand across 50 different locations inside inner Bangkok. Bangkok Deputy Governor Teerachon Manomaipibul says the project will offer an alternative mode of transport for commuters travelling between each sky-train and subway station. Over 100 bicycles are now available for rent at Cham Churi Square Building and Henry Dunant Intersection, and up to 500 bikes will be ready by next February. Clients are required to make payment using electronic Smart Cards, which are sold at the rental outlets. The first 15 minutes of usage is free, then 10 baht for one hour and up to 80 baht for eight hours. Each bicycle comes with its own GPS system. (TNA)
