Bangkok to organize activities on World Rabies Day

BANGKOK, September 15 (TNA) - To observe the World Rabies Day 2016, which falls on September 25, the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) will offer free sterilization and vaccination for dogs and cats at the BMA’s canine center in the capital's Prawet District. BMA Deputy Permanent Secretary Wanthanee Watthana told journalists on Thursday that BMA will organize the event to mark the World Rabies Day 2016 during 9-10am, aimed at getting rid of Rabies and promoting public awareness on raising their pets with love and responsibility by not dumping them to become stray dogs or cats being at risk of contracting the fatal disease. Apart from providing sterilization and vaccination for dogs and cats, Wanthanee said that there will also be microchip implanting service for the pets at the event. The senior BMA official invited interested people to join the event and bring their pets to receive the services free of charges. Besides, a dog show, an exhibition on Rabies and a seminar will be part of the event. According to the Bureau of Epidemiology, under the Thai Ministry of Public Health, there had been no report of Rabies fatalities in the country during July 2012-August 2016, but the latest death was a man in Bangkok's Bangna area whom was bitten by a dog and did not go to see the doctor for Rabies shots and proper treatment.
