Bangkok prepares for becoming ASEAN capital

BANGKOK, June 28 (TNA) - The Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) is working out strategies on developing the Thai capital to become the capital of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), after the ASEAN Community (AC) is formed by 2015. According to the Bangkok Governor, M.R. Sukhumbhand Paripatra, BMA welcomes suggestions from all sectors in the Thai society to help tailor the strategies. Besides, the City Authority is also joining forces with Thammasat University’s ASEAN Studies Centre and other relevant units to help work out the strategies, based on the AC's three pillars of politics and security, socio-culture and economy. The Bangkok governor said he expects that the BMA's strategies should be completed by August 2013. (TNA)
