Bangkok public transports extend services next week

BANGKOK, January 10 (TNA) - Operators of public transports will increase frequency of rail and ferry services to facilitate Bangkok commuters next week when anti-government protesters carry out their plan to “shutdown” the capital. Transport Minister Chadchart Sittipunt chaired a meeting with heads of government offices under the ministry’s administration on Friday to check readiness in providing transport service for the people from January 13, when protesters of the People’s Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC) plan to occupy major intersections and roads in Bangkok. Skytrain, subway, and airport rail link operators are ready to extend service hours from midnight to 2 am of the next day and to increase frequency of train trips, Chadchart said. According to the transport minister, the State Railway of Thailand (SRT) has also proposed to provide train trips from Bangkok’s suburb to inner Bangkok every 15 minutes, while the Marine Department has cooperated with private ferry operators, running express ferry service in Bangkok’s canal and the Chao Phraya River to increase their service frequency.
