Bangkok roads get facelift

BANGKOK, January 18 (TNA) - Concerned agencies under the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) jointly carried out a scenic improvement activity on Saturday to improve scenery along the roads in the capital's Thonburi side in honor of His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej on the auspicious occasion of the beloved Thai monarch’s 86 birthday anniversary on December 5, 2013. Deputy Bangkok Governor Police General Atsawin Kwanmuang presided over a ceremony to launch the ‘City of Heaven Roads’ activity. Representatives from several district offices, the Public Work Department, the Environmental Department, the Traffic and Transportation Department and the Department of Drainage and Sewerage joined the activity to improve scenery on both sides of the roads, from Klong Bangkok Noi Bridge to Ratchaphruek Intersection next to Borommaratchachonnani Road. They cleaned up flyovers, footpaths and roadside drains, regulated street-vendors and motorcycle taxis, rearranged public bins, cleared up garbage in canals, trimmed and cared for roadside trees, repaired road surface and footpaths, removed illegally-placed signs, repainted pavement sideways and traffic sings, improved street lights and checked close-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras.
