Bangkok worried about shutdown: poll

BANGKOK, January 12 (TNA) - A new survey by Thailand's Suan Dusit Poll indicates worry among the people about the planned city-wide "shutdown" of Bangkok by anti-government protestors led by the People's Democratic Reform Committee (PDRC), despite many believing it could lead to political changes in the country. Of the total one thousand survey respondents, 34 percent said the demonstration would be significant, while 24 percent believed it would hurt the economy and 8 percent feared violent clashes would occur. Meanwhile, as anti-government groups prepare for their upheaval on Monday to oust the caretaker government, pro-government supporters began to mass in several provinces as well, including in the northern province of Chiang Mai. They insist that the Election Commission must go ahead with the February 2 general election. (TNA)
