BDF Hospital awarded international accreditation

Manama, May 31 (BNA): The International Federation for the Surgery of Obesity (IFSO) has awarded Bahrain Defence Force Hospital (BDFH) an international accreditation as a specialized center for surgery of obesity and diabetes. The accreditation was announced earlier in current May following a visit conducted by an IFSO delegation to the BDFH in last March. In a statement to Bahrain News Agency, Royal Medical Services Commander Maj-Gen Prof. Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al-Khalifa extended appreciation to BDF Commander-in-chief Field Marshal Shaikh Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Khalifa for supporting the Royal Medical Services. He said that the BDFH is among the few hospitals have received the accreditation in the Middle East. He said that obesity and diabetes surgeries were first started in the BDFH in 2003 as Maj-Gen Professor Shaikh Khalid bin Ali Al Khalifa was the first to introduce the gastric banding procedure there, following that the surgeries were vastly developed to include sleeve gastrectomy surgeries and gastric modification or conversion operations. He pointed the center's interest in conducting medical researches, several of which have been publish in leading scientific journals over the past three years.
