KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 24 (Bernama) -- The prime minister's wife, Rosmah Mansor on Tuesday called on the people to be grateful for the peace and prosperity in the country since independence and to preserve this for future generations. She said peace was a luxury that must be protected by whatever means for the benefit of future generations. "We should be grateful as Malaysia has remained a peaceful, prosperous and stable nation and free of turbulence and violent conflicts like that happening in some countries," she said. Rosmah (six from left) who is president of the Welfare Body of Wives of Ministers and Deputy Ministers (Bakti), said the peace enjoyed today did not come easily and members of the security forces had been the vital defence fortress in ensuring that peace. "The sacrifices of our security forces have enabled our national leaders to continue with efforts to develop the country, reaching a level that we can be proud of," she said as the handing-over of Hari Raya contributions to the security forces. Also present were Bakti vice-president and wife of the deputy prime minister, Noorainee Abdul Rahman (five from left), and Dr Siti Hasmah Mohd Ali (four from left), wife of former prime minister Dr Mahathir Mohamad. Bakti handed over 39,040 boxes of Hari Raya goodies for members of the security forces who will be on duty during the Raya celebration. Rosmah said 15,000 boxes of the goodies would be given to the Malaysian Armed Forces (MAF), 20,000 to the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) and 4,040 to the Malaysian Maritime Enforcemment Agency (MMEA). PDRM was represented by Inspector-General of Police Ismail Omar (left), MAF its chief General Zulkifeli Mohd Zin (second from right) and MMEA by its director of operations, Maritime Rear Admiral Ahmad Puzi Ab Kahar (right). Bakti has spent RM370,880 (US$116,650.53) on the contributions with each Raya goodie gift box containing 'rendang', sambal ikan bilis (anchovy sauce), 'nasi himpit' and kuah kacang (peanut sauce). Rosmah said the contributions were in appreciation of the services of members of the security forces and to bring festive cheer to them. -- BERNAMA
