Beijing to support Moscow during BRICS presidency

BEIJING, April 3. /TASS/. Being Russia’s strategic partner, China will provide an efficient support to its northern ally as BRICS chair /five major emerging economies - Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa/, the Chinese Foreign Ministry told TASS on Friday. "Russia has taken over the rotating presidency in BRICS after a six-year break. China and Russia have relationship of comprehensive partnership and interaction," the statement says. "China will support the Russian Federation in its work as a rotating chair of BRICS. The Chinese side is hopeful that cooperation in the format of BRICS will reach new heights." In July 2015 Russia is to host the 7th summit of BRICS member countries in the city of Ufa, 1,167 km /725 miles/ southeast of Moscow. China’s foreign ministry expresses its confidence that "BRICS spirit will be promoted (at the leaders’ meeting) and the summit will be held in an atmosphere of openness, tolerance, cooperation and mutual benefit." "Beijing, alongside other BRICS states, wishes to render assistance to Russia in organisation of a successful summit," the document says. BRICS is "a major platform for developing countries’ cooperation and it plays an active and constructive role in stimulating the world’s economic growth and in improving the system of global economy management and [this platform] also upholds principles of democratisation in international relations." As BRICS chair, Russia sets tasks of transformation of the association into a full-fledged mechanism of strategic and current cooperation on key issues of world’s economy and politics. The summit due to be held on July 9 to 10 will become an important landmark in the BRICS history. Read more
