Bhutanese arrested on possessing ‘K’

BANGKOK, September 2 (TNA) - Thai customs officers have apprehended a 26-year-old Bhutanese woman and charged her with illegally possessing 4.79 kilogrammes of ketamine, also known as ‘K’, and attempting to smuggle the drug into the Kingdom. The customs authorities said the Bhutanese woman was arrested following the seizure of the ketamine, valued about 15 million baht and hidden inside her luggage. According to the customs authorities, the Bhutanese woman had told them that she was paid 20,000 baht by an Indian man to smuggle the 'K' drug into Thailand. The authorities told reporters that the Bhutanese woman had visited Thailand five times, carrying a tourist visa. The Thai customs officers said more Indian drug smugglers have been arrested lately and they have switched to hiring Bhutanese. Thailand's Customs Department reported that customs officers have seized altogether 298 drug smuggling cases, with narcotics valued about 483.52 million baht, since the beginning of the 2013 fiscal year starting from October 1, 2012.
