Bhutanese PM joins "Bangkok Dialogue on the Rule of Law"

BANGKOK, November 15 (TNA) - Visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister Lyonchhen Tshering Tobgay on Friday attended “The Bangkok Dialogue on the Rule of Law”, organized by Thailand Institute of Justice, aimed at promoting international cooperation and the rule of law, which will have impacts on the development of the Post-2015 Development Agenda of the United Nations. The Bhutanese Prime Minister, who is paying his official visit to Thailand from November 13-16, told the meeting that the King of Bhutan considers citizens as the center of the country; so, national development emphasizes on the happiness of people, rather than the country's gross domestic product (GDP), suggesting that the public happiness results from good management based on justice. According to the visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister, his country has changed to become a democratic regime since 2008, when the King of Bhutan bestowed a constitution on his subjects with its focus on the conservation of national cultures and the environment, after a five-year drafting based on studies on the Charters of several countries and public opinions. Though consisting of a handful of sections, the Bhutanese Prime Minister acknowledged, his country's Charter describes the fundamental rights and responsibilities of citizens to guarantee the freedom and good life of people. The visiting Bhutanese Prime Minister is scheduled to attend a dinner hosted by the Bhutanese Ambassador in Bangkok on Friday evening, before he departs from Thailand on Saturday, ending his four-day trip to the Kingdom, which is the first official visit to the Kingdom by a Bhutanese prime minister after both countries established their diplomatic relations on November 14, 1989.
