"Big waves"-affected people in Thai South ready for evacuation

NAKHON SI THAMMARAT, December 28 (TNA) - People in Nakhon Si Thammarat Province in the Thai South have braced for more "big waves" and strong wind probably hitting the provincial coastline in the coming days, as advised by Governor Viroj Jiwarangsan. In response to an updated warning issued by the National Disaster Warning Centre on more "big waves" and strong wind possibly striking Thailand's east-coast southern provinces facing the Gulf of Thailand from December 29- 30, in the immediate wake of such a phenomenon earlier this week, the Nakhon Si Thammarat governor said on Wednesday that he has urged local villagers to be on alert and prepared for evacuation during the year-end period. The governor told reporters that local agencies concerned have also been tasked with arranging temporary shelters for the evacuees and providing mental supports for those being panic by the rising sea levels. Accompanied by provincial Red Cross staffs, the governor, meanwhile, went to inspect areas and visit villagers in the Talumpuk Cape of Nakhon Si Thammart's Pak Phanang District, battered by "big-waves"-borne flood seawater over the past couple of days and handed relief packs to the affected villagers.
