Birthday celebration held for male panda in Thai North

CHIANG MAI, THAILAND, August 6 (TNA) - Chiang Mai Zoo in the Thai North organises the 15th birthday celebration for a male panda, Chuang Chuang, which has been loaned from China. Nipon Wichairat, Acting Director of Chiang Mai Zoo, along with other officials and a large group of visitors on Thursday joined in the 15th birthday celebration for Chuang Chuang. Chuang Chuang apparently enjoyed the birthday feast, comprising a huge cake which was about 60 centimetres high decorated with bamboo leaves, apples, carrots and grapes. The general atmosphere was full of smiles of those participating in the birthday party for the giant male panda. Lin Hui, a female panda at Chiang Mai Zoo, has gained her weight and hormone after undergoing an artificial insemination on June 21 and she was building a nest with bamboo branches. Chiang Mai Zoo's officials plan to conduct an ultrasound on August 21 to see whether Lin Hui is pregnant. Both giant pandas, which have been loaned by China to Chiang Mai Zoo since October 2003, will stay in Thailand until 2023, based on a new deal between China and Thailand. Earlier, Chuang Chuang and Lin Hui successfully artificially bred and produced a female offspring, named Lin Ping, in 2009. Lin Ping was sent back to China on September 28, 2013 and she delivered twin babies at Ya An Panda Conservation and Research on July 27, 2015. (TNA)
