BJA hails Bahrain’s media strides

Manama, May.2 (BNA): Bahrain will tomorrow (May3) join the other nations in marking the World Press Freedom Day, being held this year under the theme ""Let Journalism Thrive! Towards Better Reporting, Gender Equality, and Media Safety in the Digital Age". In a statement today, Bahrain Journalists Association (BJA) hailed Bahrain’s press freedom strides under the reform project, which was launched by His Majesty King Hamad bin Isa Al-Khalifa more than ten years ago. It paid tribute to His Royal Highness Prime Minister Prince Khalifa bin Salman Al-Khalifa and His Royal Highness Prince Salman bin Hamad Al-Khalifa, Crown Prince, Deputy Supreme Commander and First Deputy Prime Minister, hailing their directives and keenness on promoting the media sector in Bahrain. The association reiterated its firm resolve to continue laying the foundations for the protection of the freedom of opinion and expression and stressed particularly press liberty, in cooperation with official parties and civil society institutions. It paid homage to all pioneers who contributed to developing the national press, enlightening the public opinion and enhancing the role of media enterprises so that it could continue its dedicated efforts to achieve the goals of Bahraini society and protect its hard-won achievements. It hailed Bahrain’s landmark press strides, praising the reform project which represents a model in ensuring basic guarantees that consolidate press freedom and create an appropriate environment of openness and independence. The (BJA) statement stressed the importance of continuing efforts to upgrade national legislations and organizational regulations so as to turn Bahrain into an attractive media hub, pointing out the ongoing endeavor to draft a modern law which takes into account media trends.
