Blaze hits leading kitchenware store in Bangkok

BANGKOK, June 9 (TNA) - Policemen early Sunday temporarily closed the Wireless Road in central Bangkok where many embassies are located after a fire hit a leading store selling imported kitchenwares and electronic devices. Police said the blaze erupted on the third floor of the seven-storey building of Verasu and later spread to other floors. About 50 employees and customers were stuck inside the building when the fire started, including five victims who climbed the verandah and were struck there. Fortunately, construction workers near the engulfed building used cable cars to help evacuate the victims. No casualties were reported in the incident while firemen were trying to contain the blaze from spreading to nearby buildings. The incident occurred just two days after a blaze hit an inn near Phahon Yothin police station in Bangkok. A woman fell to her death after she fell from the building in an attempt to escape the flames. Five others suffered from smoke inhalation and were sent to nearby hospitals for treatment. (TNA)
